When University of Connecticut Alumni couple Shari and Michael Cantor recently made a gift to UConn, they knew they wanted to make an impact in the Hartford Region by promoting economic development and entrepreneurship.
The result is Build Hartford, a new course designed to help UConn students develop entrepreneurial skills and work for a Hartford area startup. The course will premiere this spring as part of the Werth Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at UConn.
“I care deeply about keeping young people that graduate from our universities here in the state,” says Michael. “A key way to do that is to have a vibrant startup community where they all want to work.”
Through Build Hartford, students will work with mentors and the team at the Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at UConn to help solve challenged faced by startups in the Hartford Region.
“We want give to something that builds,” says Shari. “We think this is an initial gift and project that can take off and have a lasting impact.”
