INNOVATION DESTINATION HARTFORD: How did you develop the business concept for your company?
AYAAD: Before moving to the U.S. and prior enrolling at the University of Hartford for my Master of Business Administration, I worked at a company specialized in educational furniture and learning resources in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
VS Furniture Middle East is a powerful performer in the field of complete suppliers. Its broad spectrum of products provides holistic furniture solutions for schools, administration departments, offices, and conference areas. However, the main goal was to provide the educational institutions such as kindergartens, schools, and universities with the highest-quality products to guarantee an exceptional educational environment. In addition to that, VS ME provides high technology devices like interactive boards, projectors, and tables for smarter classrooms. “Technology-enhanced classrooms” or “smart” classrooms designate those classrooms that have been augmented with a variety of technological tools that can enhance the learning environment.
Being in a direct contact with teachers and students from a variety of schools allowed me to become aware of all the challenges that occur in classes that encourage the use of technology. This experience has proven to me conclusively, that all schools, classes, and any form of educational process share a common problem called distraction.
With the combination of a good technology background, some sketching skills, and being in an academic environment once again, I was able to think of solutions for the problem of distraction. After building a small prototype and modifying it based on customer feedback, I was able to design Muni, the first educational device using augmented reality.
IDH: Tell us about the services your company provides.
AYAAD: Muni Innovations & Technologies has developed a unique educational tool for children that is fun and engaging. By combining a mini projector, a camera, and augmented reality, students will be able to watch videos on a paper notebook.
With this unique combination, we can come up with many new applications that solve existing problems or enhance a certain process in a specific target market, such as creating a more focused educational environment for students in elementary and secondary schools.
IDH: Why did you get involved in reSET Accelerator program?
AYAAD: Owing to the University of Hartford, I received enormous amount of education and I was able to acquire enough knowledge to build a business plan for my product. Nevertheless, having everything on paper was just the first step. reSET provides me with an in depth experience in testing the numbers on the paper and engaging my customers in the process of building my business.
Additionally, reSET helps me innovate new ways of generating purpose and profit and developing a solid business model. Furthermore, it forms a bridge between me and experienced entrepreneurs who simultaneously provide coaching, connections, guidance, and more resources.
