Your Mind in Bloom, LLC provides minors and adults with academic support and assists with employment preparation. Founder Angela Capinera spoke with MetroHartford Alliance Content Manager Nan Price about her experience as a female business owner.

NAN PRICE: Why did you launch your business? When and why did you decide to work for yourself?

ANGELA CAPINERA: I was working as a self-employed/independent contractor for more than 20 years and realized there was much more potential as an LLC for many reasons. I also recognized that people needed my help and I was wasting my time going through other people.

I launched my LLC 10 years ago. October marks my 10th anniversary.

NAN: How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business/be in a leadership role?

ANGELA: The road was and is the road less taken. I’ve worked in several different educational settings with children through adults and also currently volunteer as an EMT, which brings a different perspective to what I do. The learning process never stops.

NAN: To what do you most attribute your success?

ANGELA: Determination. Grit. Persistence. The people who have supported me on this adventure. Saying “yes” when others said “no.”

NAN: What role do women play in leadership/entrepreneurship?

ANGELA: Educate a woman and you educate a family, the maxim states. Women have always held half of the sky. We have always been there keeping everyone and everything going, including businesses.

NAN: What advice do you have for others?

ANGELA: Carpe Diem. Seize the Day. Just show up. Do not fear the unknown. Speak your truth and speak your value. Worry is imagination wasted.
