When it comes to startup business growth, Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ Co-Founder Jamie “The Bear” McDonald is always seeking new opportunities. In a 2016 interview with Innovation Destination Hartford Website Curator Nan Price, he noted he likes to “just keep going, going, going.”
The Bear’s team hasn’t stopped yet.
Co-Founders Jamie and Cheryl McDonald opened Bear’s Smokehouse within Windsor’s Bart’s Drive-In & The Beanery Bistro in June 2013. In July 2014, Bear’s opened a Hartford location on Arch Street and moved their Windsor operation to Poquonock Avenue. Bear’s also launched a smaller take-out and space in South Windsor.
In October 2016, the team moved its flagship Bear’s restaurant to Front Street in Hartford. The space at Arch Street was used to launch Blind Pig Pizza Co.
Chango Rosa Tacos opened in Hartford’s Union Station on June 3. Later this month, Jamie McDonald and Tyler Anderson, the chef-owner of Millwright’s in Simsbury, plan to open Cook and The Bear, in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square.
“The advice I can say is, if you see an opportunity you’ve got to jump on it,” Jamie said. “You can’t wait until you think the time is perfect. It’s never going to be perfect. All your ducks are never going to be in a row.”
