“We wanted to create a portal for all things entrepreneurial in our region—resources, success stories, innovation, events—to support entrepreneurs and potential startups and tell the world that the Hartford region is a great place to start and grow a business,” explains John Shemo, Economic Development Director at the MetroHartford Alliance, which helped launch the Innovation Destination Hartford initiative.
Innovation Destination Hartford proudly continues that mission.
To date, the website has featured nearly 300 stories about Connecticut entrepreneurs, startups, initiatives, innovation, and events. The website has had more than 20,000 unique visitors from around the country and the world. Innovation Destination Hartford has 575 Facebook followers and nearly 250 Twitter followers.
Just shy of a year before the website’s launch anniversary, Innovation Destination Hartford was recognized with Best in Show Award at the Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) 2016 Annual Awards. The website will be recognized this month by the International Economic Development Council.
Innovation Destination Hartford Website Curator Nan Price has spent the last 15 months interviewing and networking with entrepreneurs and startups throughout Connecticut.
“This experience has been incredibly inspiring,” she says. “Helping to build the Innovation Destination Hartford brand and identity—and being able to use the website and social media as tools to share stories and relevant information is extremely rewarding. It’s amazing to get so much positive feedback and encouragement from our entrepreneurial community.”
Moving forward, Innovation Destination Hartford is collaborating with the MetroHartford Alliance International Business Council to roll out IDH Global, an initiative designed to showcase global initiatives throughout Connecticut.
The website team, with support from the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, is also working on further enhancements to the site to even better serve our ever-growing Innovation Destination Hartford followers.
