Managed by Connecticut Innovations, VentureClash is a $5 million global venture challenge for early-stage companies in digital health, financial technology, insurance technology and the Internet of Things. To award its prize, Stanley Black & Decker evaluated VentureClash semifinalists to identify new technologies and business models that could accelerate solutions for those who make the world.
Innovation Destination Hartford spoke with CEO Kevin Forestell to learn more about DOZR.
INNOVATION DESTINATION HARTFORD: Tell us about your company/when and why did it launch?
KEVIN FORESTELL: I came up with the idea while working as a contractor operating a successful landscaping business in Ontario, Canada. I noticed most of my equipment was sitting idle in the winter and saw an opportunity for heavy equipment to enter the sharing economy.
IDH: What makes your service innovative?
KEVIN: DOZR is a marketplace for the online rental of heavy equipment. We provide the world’s first Expedia-like comprehensive search for the equipment rental industry. DOZR is the only platform in this vertical providing contractors with free access to real-time pricing and availability of equipment and a side-by-side comparison of rental quotes.
IDH: Why do you feel it is important for your company to have a presence in Connecticut?
KEVIN: Connecticut is a thriving state with a reputation for helping startups to grow. Many technology companies call Connecticut home and having a presence in Connecticut would enable us to grow our tech and team.
IDH: How did you become involved with VentureClash?
KEVIN: We were introduced to VentureClash through another business. However, VentureClash has a solid reputation among business and startup owners, so we were already well aware of what it was and what it offers to startups.
IDH: What do you hope to gain from the experience of participating in VentureClash?
KEVIN: Participating in VentureClash has been such a great experience for us. We hope to continue to develop relationships, receive mentorship, and be supported as we expand and grow DOZR. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to participate!
IDH: Where do you hope to see the company in one year’s time?
KEVIN: DOZR has experienced tremendous growth in the last year alone. As we head into 2019, we will continue to expand and launch new features and capabilities to the DOZR technology enabling our customers to work more efficiently in their own businesses.
We are passionate about changing this status quo and disrupting an industry to evolve it for the better. DOZR is harnessing the power of data to help renters and suppliers make smarter decisions and transforming the equipment rental industry to a much more efficient market.
