Senator Chris Murphy has been making an effort to learn about Connecticut startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators, and find ways to support the innovation economy as a U.S. senator.
He and his team are working to highlight and identify our state’s strengths in fields such as technology, bioscience, and social enterprise—as well as the collaborative spirit that is emerging throughout Connecticut, which is focused on building a new economy and supporting the startups and entrepreneurs who are making it happen.
There’s a reason Bloomberg named Connecticut the 5th most innovative state in the nation earlier this year. “We want to support and celebrate the individuals and companies that are the face of that innovative energy (and move Connecticut up in the ranks!),” says Ben Florsheim, Outreach Assistant at the Office of Senator Chris Murphy. “To borrow a phrase most entrepreneurs I know live by: we need to celebrate small wins to achieve our big goals,” he adds.
HONORING CONNECTICUT INNOVATORS
In 2017, Senator Murphy is launching his Innovator of the Month series. Each month, Senator Murphy will recognize a Connecticut company or resource provider with an Innovator of the Month award. Winners will be featured on the Senator’s website and on social media to highlight Connecticut’s innovation leaders. The Senator’s office will also work directly with Innovator of the Month honorees to determine specific steps that can be taken at the federal level to support Connecticut startups and build an ecosystem where entrepreneurs can thrive.
HIGHLIGHTING THE INNOVATION ECONOMY
Each month, Senator Chris Murphy will recognize one company or organization that is putting Connecticut on the map in the innovation economy. Fill out the form below to nominate an innovator in your community.
“Senator Murphy is doing this partly because he wants to play a role in highlighting the innovation economy, which he believes is the way forward for Connecticut,” explains Ben. “But he’s also doing it because he wants to keep the dialogue open with Connecticut startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators and constantly improve his work on this in Washington.”
The community is invited to choose the first innovators the Senator’s office will honor with the Innovator of the Month award. Nominations can include innovative startups, spaces, and initiatives.
“Whether it’s an app or tech startup, an emerging bioscience company, the latest co-working space or mentorship program, or an innovative effort to solve an existing social problem, we want to hear about it—big or small, new or old,” says Ben. “The senator and our team will determine our Innovators of the Month from your nominations and announce the first award in January 2017.”
